Good shoot & looking forward

Hello,
to whoever is reading this. (Does anyone read this?)

Today's shoot at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy went very well.
Jeff Chapman oversaw the production and it was great to see him again.
Quick checkin with Dennis Robinson and Semida- always good to see.
I'll be editing the footage and sending timecoded DVD to Jeff in
Arizona by end of next week.

Hope to be speaking with Ann Laroyer, editor of Lincoln's "Land Lines"
magazine. I'd like the opportunity to provide photography (www.folktographybytom.com
) for their very fine publication. always a new opportunity to get my
photos out there.

Tomorrow is a shoot for the Central
NE Chapter MS Society in Framingham.

Next week will bring more editing: Woodbine Firewood Processor (www.crdmetalworks.com
) & www.HullForest.com minidocumentary promo

Al Gore

Dear Friends,

On October 24th ordinary citizens will come together in a series of events, rallies, demonstrations and public art projects all designed to do one thing: bring awareness to an important number -- 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide.

During the last two years, the scientific community has made very clear that it's the maximum safe level for carbon in the atmosphere, at least if we want to have a planet "similar to the one on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted."

In more than 130 countries, people are organizing thousands of actions that will take those three digits and sear them into the planet's consciousness.

Visit http://350.org and find an event near you.

On the melting slopes of Mt. Everest, Pemba Dorje Sherpa, who holds the record for the fastest ascent of the world's highest peak, will be spreading banners and signs.

On the dying coral reefs of the Maldives, the government's entire cabinet will don scuba gear and hold an official underwater meeting to pass a 350 resolution to send to the Copenhagen summit.

On the shores of the fast-drying Dead Sea, Israeli activists will form a giant human "3" on their beach, Palestinians a "5" on theirs, and Jordanians a "0" - reminding us we need to unite on this vital issue.

Visit http://350.org and find an event near you.

Thank you,

Al Gore

PRESS RELEASE> Ashuelot NH Flood: Mini-Documentary in Progress

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

"Disaster on the River- The story of The Ashuelot, NH Paper Service Limited Mill"

Mini-Documentary Production in Progress

Producer: Reelife Documentary Productions

=====================================

On Columbus Day weekend, 2005, Ashuelot, NH, The Paper Service Limited mill was ravaged and destroyed when heavy rains breached a nearby dam. Instantly, a century of family history was washed down the river. Today, there are many issues of fault and negligence that have yet to be resolved. Reelife Documentary Productions of Williamsburg, MA is producing a mini-documentary that will explore the details of  the flood and investigate the current state of the mill through interviews with mill owner Gary O'Neal and other members of the Ashuelot community. The documentary will use archival footage from NH Public TV Channel 11, WMUR Channel 9- Manchester NH and WFCR Pubic Radio- Amherst MA. Photos from the Cheshire County and Winchester Historical Society will also be included, along with those of private collections. Tom Adams, Director of Reelife Documentary Productions is also seeking photos, video, digital images and eye witness accounts of anyone who witnessed the destruction of the mill. He is hoping anyone with anything to contribute will step forward to share their story.

Adams finds this story particularly intriguing because of his own town's flood history. In 1874, Williamsburg, MA was a bustling mill town that  suffered a similar calamitous industrial disaster. A huge, poorly constructed reservoir burst, demolishing many mills, businesses and homes, and sweeping away 139 lives along the course of the Mill River. The Ashuelot, NH Paper Services Mill site dates to 1850 when it was a saw mill powered by the Fuller Dam. In 1883 Christmas papers were produced in Ashuelot, NH and in 1884, a long term relationship was established with S. S. Pierce in Boston. Blocks of 1000 sheets of 5x7 cabinet tissue were shipped all over the Americas by Rail Road Express. During WWI Jerry Packs were made and shipped to the troops for use in fox holes. The mill changed with the times and rag paper gave way to recycled tissue. Hydropower then gave way to coal which, in turn, was replaced oil. The biggest change came with the 1970's Green Revolution and the mill adapted it's operation to include green energy and alternative operation methods. The mill has long been recognized by the EPA as a model for its anti-pollution efforts. Unfortunately, due to the amount of damage caused by the flood, the mill can not be rebuilt and the owner has now filed for bankruptcy. The mini-documentary will do its part to preserve the legacy of The O'Neal family business as well as a part of New Hampshire's Paper Mill history.

To contribute to this documentary, please contact Gary O'Neal: Paper Service Limited, Box 45, Hinsdale, NH 03451, gary@paperservice.com or Tom Adams: Tom@ReelifeProductions.com, (413) 575-9707, Williamsburg, MA, www.ReelifeProductions.com.

PRESS RELEASE: Local producer's video selected for Northampton Arts Council's juried exhibit "LANDSCAPE: Scene and Unseen"

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local Producer's Video selected for Northampton Arts Council's juried exhibit "LANDSCAPE: Scene and Unseen"
Reelife Documentary Productions' video "Dancing in Noho" was recently accepted into the Northampton Arts Council's juried exhibit "LANDSCAPE: Scene and Unseen". Reelife's Director/Owner Tom Adams describes his piece as "A chance encounter...I was strolling through downtown Northampton on a beautiful summer's eve and I stumbled onto one of the many surreal events that make "Noho" so special....this amazingly vibrant and romantic scene at the steps of the First Church. So, I couldn't resist getting out the ole camera and putting this little vignette together. Northampton is such a funky city... surprises keep popping up all over the place....and that's the reason I've lived in this area for almost 20 years now." The response from area artists was impressive, with over 80 entries received, making the jury process a challenge. The jurors were delighted with the quality, variety and integrity of the submissions and selected works from 24 artists. The show begins Friday, October 2nd and runs through the end of the month at the Hosmer Gallery of Forbes Library, Northampton, MA. A reception is scheduled during Northampton's Arts Night Out on Friday, October 9 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  To find out more about Mr. Adams' work, visit www.ReelifeProductions.com or www.FolktographybyTom.com

All My Plastic Melon Dreams update

I whole bunch has happened over the last week. After having a great correspondence with a potential cinematographer ...I realized I could use some of what I wrote to him as an update for all of you: Here's some nibbles & bits: • entire audio of both interviews (approx 45 minutes)has been transcribed and formatted into a script template. I had about 10 volunteers go through all of the audio. • digitized and edited the 40min Hampshire Interview Footage • digitized end edited the 9min Pearl Interview Footage • digitized Coventry traffic jam footage • redited the trailer to make it a little more fancy • refining the website on a weekly daily basis - still need to add a page recognizing all of the fine backers that are now signed up on kickstart page - it'll have to wait til after the 10th, unfortunately. • raised approx $700 in last 6 days on kickstarter.com without even having launched my full-out campaign • whole bunch of blog-interviews lined up for the Butterroom, YEP, Phish.net, plus about three more. • using twitter & facebook and linkedin are all really helping to get the word out • got another article with springfield, ma's masslive.com online newspaper. • had an invester from a documentary firm email today showing great interest • fbooked with "stickemup" promotions who does great viral advertising stuff...I know the owner-lives in the area.. • just found out another "my-best friends' best from highschool" connection - He holds a great position with red light management. Major good news for the effort of getting "my foot in the door" (I hope)...once the official trailer has been completed. • setting a mtg. date with cinematographer & scriptwriter to details of shooting new footage which will be included in the trailer so, there's a bunch going on and the pledges are helping others to realize that this is a serious endeavor ...golsh darn it all. I'm hoping to reach 10% of the campaign by he end of next week. I'm trying to spead thiskickstarter link around as much as possible without sounding like a broken record or self-promoting freakazoid...
also, i'm supposed to be on vacation but we decided to leave early tomorrow am instead of this afternoon because of all the rain...anyway, i digress.

Thanks again and keep spreading the link around to as many people as you can. I'd even suggest a small link at the bottom of your signature (if you use one)...that way, you don't even have to think about remembering...I find that works very well...just a hint... Thanks-Tom

RARE musical release from lester b thomas

ladies & gentlemen,

I thought you might like to take pause and listen to the following song entitled "winter" by reclusive writer/philanthropist lester b thomas. This instrumental guitar song is from lester's forthcoming debut cd titled "winter". (look for a link on this blog somewhere (sometime soon)...

========================
"With this debut offering, lester b thomas has firmly planted his foot in the musical landscape of nowheresville. The tone of this stark and meager tune is especially appropriate for those of us who have been cooped up during this long winter...enduring brutally cold nights & downright gloomy days. If this is a legitimate sample of what's to to be expected from the other songs on the cd, I have big hopes for this relatively obscure post modernisto, lester b thomas.
God bless the musical independence revolution!

status update #001a

- more an excercise in mental cleansing than a public service
announcement:

- currently recording new lecture at Lincoln institute
of land policy

- preparing to launch new Reelife branch: extraordinary events
documentary film/video/slide preservation
(working a much sexier title). recorded audio demo of an audio clip
that will appear on new webpage dedicated to this new branch.

- added new section to Reelife's new home page- Projects/in progress.
so visitors can see what I'm up to on a day to day basis (not that
anyone really cares - or do they?)

- submitted a very exciting proposal for the production of a
performance documentary for a very well established Ballet company
that is looking to produce something for PBS or arts channel. stay
tuned...

- I love "mobile me" - apple's "cloud" based server that allows for
access to files an photos etc from anywhere (including iPhone)

- I love Apple's iWeb software. It's allowed me to take over complete
control of Reelife
website... which, I might add, in my humble opinion, looks pretty darn
snazzy!

- I'm working in a new invention! for real. (as my best buddy dave
"carp" carpino used to say). It invloves an iPhone and a new iPhone
app called "auto cue". and that's all I'm gonna say for now. stay
tuned...

ok. my brain has been cleansed. thanks for listening. ...

Keeping Busy Reelife Style

Well, just when I thought the recession monster got his gnarly claws
on the Reelife machine, it turns out the "gigs" are starting to stroll
the door again. I love it when that happens because I hate twiddling
my thumbs as some of you may aleady know.

I'm on my way to a last minute shoot in Cambridge for the Lincoln
institute of land policy for 2nd time this month. Their director of
marketing,Anthony Flint, seems to be embracing the idea that the
Internet is the perfect outlet for videos of lecture & conferences.
Reelife has been producing for them for about 5 yrs.

alright. I need to cut this blog entry short.

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy

Today I am recording a lecture on Property Rights for the Lincoln
Institute (Cambridge). The lecture is part of their "eteach" online
course. Lincoln is an international 'think tank' that deals with
important and controversial land use issues that are becoming more and
more relevant to us as the earth's population continues to grow by the
second! I've been working with Lincoln for almost ten years now and
I'm proud of this collaboration...

Reelife's new website (beta v1.8) goes "LIVE"

Yes, folks it's true, after 18 hours of mind melding and sweaty eyelids...Reelife's new website is up and active....

Thanks to all of my friends and associates who took the time to give me constructive criticisms...much obliged.  I'm pretty darn happy with it and I hope it allows me to provide Reelife's services to a wider audience.  In today's economy, I like to apply the you-scracth-me, I'll-scratch-you analogy (gosh, what horrible imagery...but I digress).

Well, I hope you all are doing well and thanks for checkin out the new Reelife Blog too.
It'd be great if some people started to subscribe to the rss feed so we could all keep in touch - taking advantage of all of the instant technology that surrounds huh...

well HERE'S where you can see Reelife's new website (let me know what you think if you haven't already):

Ok, over and out for now.

Tom

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Reelife Productions' new website debuting...soon!

looking forward to the new Reelife website "going live" real soon.  I'll be requesting "constructive criticisms" from associates and friends in the next couple of days and implementing (or not) their suggestions.  this is exciting because, although, I've like the site designed by mr. andy barry over at www.designingflash.com, I thought it would be best to re-design my own site so I can have direct access to it and update things on a more regular basis (I'm using apple's iweb app).

so, I'll be getting out the champagne soon and...anyone who wants to join me can help celebrate... anyone...bueller?

warding off the recession monster

i'm working on a new ad campaign that will hopefully drum up business for both Reelife AND my clients. The idea of using video as a promotional tool often gets put on the back burner when times are tough.  Well, I'll be working on communicating this idea of using video-for-the-web and other promotional channels through a specific, targeted postcard campaign using www.printsmadeeasy.com (a great, inexpensive, custom printing service)  ..in the next few weeks...while i'm working on bringin' in more work through the door.

ok, back to work...
